Important Safety Tips
- Replace fuses with circuit breakers.
- Prevent overloaded circuits – make sure you operate one heavy appliance at a time on same circuit.
- Prevent overloaded wiring – make sure wire is sized sufficiently to operate the appliance in use.
- Install tamperproof receptacles. Soon to be required.
- Check extension cords for damage and do not overload.
- Install GFCI protection (ground fault) around home, ie: swimming pools, bathrooms, kitchen, basement, garage and exterior.
- Install AFCI protection (arc fault) around home. Relatively new product required in bedrooms. Soon to be required throughout home.
- Do not use wall adapters to plug in heavy appliances.
- Repair loose switches and receptacles.
